Title of my film

Although I have not yet made a title for my film, I was thinking of a title name that has a positive connotation to it. I do not want to pick anything that may sound mysterious or scary because that may throw off the initial understanding for the genre the film. Some ideas that I have thought about "All that it Takes", "Continuity", "On and On", "Over and Over". All of these potential titles have something to do with everyday life and moving on. It goes hand in hand with what I essentially want my film to be about, since it will have a coming of age theme. Coming of age means moving on to a different stage in life, and I want my film title to reflect that.

Target Audience

Many people have been asking me, "What is the point of your film? Who is your target audience?". My film is specifically targeted towards people in the same age group as me, teens and young adults. However, people of any age group can view it as well. Although this film is being made for the enjoyment of anyone who watches, I believe that people that are between the ages of 12-20 years of age, will relate with it better, which means that it will be more appealing to them.

Mise-en-Scene

Hi guys! I am back again providing you all with updates on my project. In this blog post, I will go over the mile-en-scene of my project. As you all know, my genre is a teen comedy film, therefore, I will be having bright and natural lighting, as well as modern clothing. There will be fashion trends that are currently being worn this year such as ripped denim, denim skirts, cropped tops, jean jackets, up cycled denim, and other fashion statements from the 80s and 90s combined into one. The hair will be styled in a ponytail, or laying down, but since I may have African American people in my film, you guys may see some Afro inspired hair trends such as box braids, and twists. Some props that I will use are a cell phone, laptop, and a handbag. The setting in the bedroom and school will add character to the film and make it more realistic. The miseducating-en-scene in the film, Booksmart, that was released in 2019 has inspired me for my film. The dressing is very modern, and the hair and...

Title Sequence

Clueless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3ygQCQh8Kg The Clueless film is a typical teenage film, about high school cliche's and popularity. In the opening of the film, it shows multiple clips of teens hanging out together and having fun, while Kids in American, an upbeat pop song, is playing in the background. The film's title sequence features a multitude of pastel colors on screen, and shows the producer and film makers names in a fancy cursive font, which correlates with the high-end class of the protagonist. It shows clip art of clothing hangers, dresses, lipsticks, and shoes as well.  Superbad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A2UL71CjIw  The title sequence of Superbad, begins with the production company displaying their logo, followed by upbeat funk music, as it transitions into the movie. The title sequence shows colorful dancing shadows on screen, moving around as the names pop up on the bottom corners of the screen. Behind the dancing shadows are d...

Location

Image
For my film, I plan on shooting it in my room and throughout my home. I am trying to go for the nostalgic teen feeling that many people feel when watching the opening to a teen comedy. Many teen comedies begin with the main character in their bedrooms, most of the time using some sort of electronic device. Besides my bedroom, I also thought about filming in the hallways and classrooms of my school. The school location is also another popular setting in teen comedies because that is where many teen activities take place, as well as the foundations of the stereotypes. This is also a great location to film because I will have to film during real school hours, which will make my opening more authentic. I will also film different shots of the city in which I live.          Example of my Bedroom:                                          My School:    ...

Representation Within Genre

In the past, most coming-of0age films did not have a fair amount of representation for minority groups. Most of the characters were always portrayed as and played by white heterosexual male teens, who were typically in the middle class. This stereotypical portrayal is unfair because that is not the norm and it also makes people.  In the recent years, many filmmakers have been making an effort to casts more diverse casts, such as having more female leads, characters who are apart of the LGBTQ community, and members of black, white, asian and other minority communities. The teen comedy, coming of age genre has shown to come a long way with the recent release of the movie, "Booksmart", in 2019. This movie features two female protagonists who were the academic overachievers all throughout high school, but on their graduation night, they looked for scandalous activities and parties to partake in after realizing that they missed a lot of special moments in their adolescent years. Film Opening Concept

Hi Guys! I am back again just to update you all on my idea for my film opening. So far, I have really found myself drawn to the typical teen film opening, however, I am not sure how I want to present it. I am stuck in between an opening like the introduction to "The Perfect Date", which shows the protagonist going about his normal daily activities, featuring a voice over that gives the audience information about the main character. The other film intro that I find intriguing, is that of the "Kissing Booth". It starts off by inserting different scenes, while also featuring a title sequence. After a couple of seconds, the narrator begins to give a voice over telling the back story of the main character. I actually really like this film opening because it gives me the best of both worlds. I can insert different scenes, show the title sequences, and can also give a voiceover on the main character's past or current situation. Lastly, I love the opening of the Netflix...
